LARA CROFT
Lara croft Go is a very iconic video game which also has a film and a tv series, its cross media. She is well known as the tomb raider. She is the action figure which fights the villains. In 1996 the graphics of the game were very bad, and Lara croft (the protagonist) was quite modest. Later on the graphics improved overtime and that was expected that as technology evolved the game had better graphics and a style that was followed. Although, the graphics were slightly different because of the different platforms they were played on like the gameboy, place-station and PC. Also, the main character, Lara Croft, becomes more sexualised throughout, This is done by the clothing she is wearing and this is because it appeals to the male audience which supposedly only play the game or is the target audience. Although some might say because it contains a sexual desire of Lara Croft because of her exaggerated physique in the game which attracts the male audience. On the other hand, she is an action hero that kills animals and humans and she is very adventurous than therefore defies that stereotype slightly. So her character doesn't fully follow the traditional stereotype. Because of these points as well video games tend to attract the male audience and not the females because of the characters and maybe the violent nature of the video game although some females might like that.

LARA CROFTS'S ENEMIES |
LARA CROFT'S PLACE AND TIME |
In the Video games, Lara croft's enemies are very cliche and they use animals that people are scared of or would be a bit scared of in real life like spiders, snakes and sharks. Potentially animals that could kill you in real life. They are easy to know that they are the villains in the game and this is because its a casual game and would want to make sure that you don't have to think about the strategies or know a back story to play the game. You would know who the villains are straight away. Also, a lot of the time in the last level or the final level they use mythical creatures like 'queen of venom' in Lara croft and that would be the most challenging creature/ animal to kill. Although now they use humans a bit in the most recent games or Lara Croft Go and this is because it isn't seen as a casual game and more like a game that you need to play quite a lot and have knowledge and experience of the game and so you are hooked to it.
|
You can't tell the time or time period in the games, it's timeless but you can know that its modern because of things such as the weapons which are more modern. Also the concept of action adventure exploring and uncovering relics from an ancient/ jungle themed place isn't new and therefore shows intertextuality.

FEATURES OF LARA CROFT GAME
Lara croft has traditional action adventure elements like she solves puzzles, shoots villains, fights, and moves while avoiding hazards in the game. It also ha a sequential path, it is very straight forward and this makes it easy to play and more of a casual game. Also normally all the puzzles are mostly linked closely to each there so it doesn't require a lot of remembering and focusing.
The game is quite simple and it doesn't have a lot of villains and different characters so it is more suitable for mobile. This is because it won't use much memory and therefore you can leave it on your mobile without slowing it down or making it glitch.
Lara Croft's iconography is relevant to the rest of the game. As it is all jungle-themed, her costume changes through the years with modesty but always represents adventure and action like the olive green colour is normally used in things like the army which could be represented as dangerous and quite adventures.

The old adverts were very sexualized and mostly aimed at male teenagers and seemed quite laddish. Nowadays the adverts are mostly genderless, they don't aim at one specific gender. In 2015, they have serious interviews on social media, screenshots o the App store and Google play and they are not designed in a way to sexualise them. This allows Lara Croft franchise to reach a mass audience.
Stereotypically gaming is seen quite negatively, some negative impacts of gaming that people think affects a person are: violent games can make people more violent, they might harm the brain, they socially isolate people, it disallows you to take part in life activities, can confuse reality and fantasy, could teach people the wrong value, could be addictive and harm other areas of life, also they could be bad for your health because of its lazy nature and they are said to make you less empathetic. Although, there are good aspects of gaming, some are: it helps problem solving and logic skills, hand-eye coordination, fine motor and spatial skills, allows for quick thinking, making fast analysis and decisions, helps perseverance, and helps teach people how to respond to challenges and frustrations, help improve teamwork skills when working with others and some games encourage brain growth.
Lara Croft Go was well received by critics and scored 84/100 by the Meteoritic. The US gamer had a similar score of 8.5, this was the score because people though that it was a very good game but found it short and wanted more levels. It also won many awards such as: The apple design award (2016), Game of the year (2015), The game awards (2015), IGN's Best of 2015 and they also got nominated for the D.I.C.E awards.
